About Northern Michigan Broadband Cooperative
History
The first organizational meeting to form the Northern Michigan Broadband Cooperative was held January 16th, 2008 at University Center in Gaylord with 113 people attending. There was overwhelming support for the creation of the cooperative to develop solutions for a 12 county area (now 21 counties). A 37 person steering committee was assembled to begin work on preparation for incorporation.
During the summer of 2008, Northern Michigan Broadband Cooperative filed their Articles of Incorporation and the By-Laws were created.
The counties represented by the Cooperative are as follows: Alpena, Antrim, Alcona, Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Iosco, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon, and Wexford.
Work is currently underway to solidify a business plan, initiate membership, and start operations.
